Case study: HJ Baker
A new client for Fenelon based in the Southampton area required some major repairs on one of their existing tanks, after a third party inspection. It was decided that the roof and top two shell courses should be demolished and replaced with new on a like for like basis, the bottom 500mm of tank shell was to be removed and replaced along with any nozzles that were situated within that band along with a full annular replacement.
Due to the tight timeline stipulated by the client, the quickest way to get started was to remove and replace the annular sections along with the replacement of the bottom 500mm of shell plate.
As this was on going it allowed time for the roof, shell, and nozzle components to be fabricated and delivered to site.
The roof and top two shell courses were built on a car storage park opposite site, this required the permission off ABP ports to which they granted. The existing roof and top two shell courses were stitch cut in readiness for removal.
A contract lift using a 450t crane was scheduled in for a 2 day turn around for the removal of the existing roof and top two courses of shell plate, and the installation of the new roof and two shell tiers of shell plate.
Once this was complete the two sections were welded back together using MMA welding equipment, and NDT carried out to client/ code requirements.
